Dynamic Tension-to-Tension Test
Flexible pipes are designed according to specific methodologies that were developed and improved over the years by its manufacturers, operators and researchers. However, any type of modeling must be evaluated by appropriated tests capable of validating and/or calibrating the assumed hypothesis. Such tests often have more than one objective, such as verify the design methodology and the fatigue safety factor considered, as well as qualifying the flexible pipe’s end fitting’s assembly procedure.
In order to carry out this kind of evaluation on the manufactured flexible pipes, Símeros has a tension-tension test bench with a capacity of up to 7,000 kN of dynamic axial force. In addition, an own flooded annulus system can be used during the tests, approaching even more to the conditions found in the field. Along with the axial loading, it is possible to apply an internal pressure of up to 19,000 psi (1,310 bar).
The servo-hydraulic control guarantees a precise application of the loads and an own event detection system, made up of several sensors, allows to identify in real time disturbances and anomalies that can occur, like layer rupture, radiation in the position of balance, among others. The test bench used for this type of test allows the sample to rotate around its axis, as well as to elongate its length. During testing, the data is processed and sent to the client via our own data processing system in the cloud, which enables multiple levels of backup while maintaining the integrity of the test data.
