Foundation of the company
In the year of 2009, Símeros started its activities in Porto Alegre. The first step was to position itself in a consolidated way in the local market.
The first consultancies
Símeros carried out its first works with CAD and CAE consultancies, as well as instrumentation services. The differential was to offer numerical-experimental comparatives.
The first O&G work
In this year, Símeros was hired to instrument flexible pipe test samples. A high responsibility service that was performed successfully, helping define the market for the company’s operations, the O&G sector.
INOVA PETRO program
In 2012, Símeros collaborated with TMSA and together they submitted a proposal in FINEP and BNDE’s INOVA PETRO program with the technical support of Petrobras. The project “Development of accessories for flexible pipes” was approved.
The end fitting product development
In 2013, Símeros developed three international patents that together define the TMSA-SÍMEROS end fitting. In parallel, the company consolidated itself in the market of services, developing and executing evaluation and qualification tests for flexible pipes.
TECNOVA-RS program and international service
In the year of 2014, Símeros submitted and was contemplated in the TECNOVA-RS program with the project “Development of a flexible pipe monitoring system for offshore applications”. In the same year, Símeros was hired by the Italian company Prysmian to execute qualification tests in umbilicals according to Exxon specifications.
Símeros test lab
In 2015, Símeros had the opportunity to design and build its own test laboratory. In the new space, Símeros carried out several tests within the flexible pipes’ qualification program for GE Oil & Gas. In the same year, Símeros developed a patent for automated assembling of end fittings.
Searching for new horizons, Símeros began an internationalization program, where several partnerships, in complimentary areas, were firmed. The test laboratory was operational and new equipment were acquired. One more patent of rapid anchoring for flexible pipes was developed, consolidating the constant creation of innovation in the company.
In 2017, Símeros is committed to disseminating its developments and expanding its operations. More innovations in products and services will be presented this year.
Founded in October 06, 2009 in Porto Alegre – RS, SÍMEROS PROJETOS ELETROMECÂNICOS LTDA. was born with inspiration and focus in technological innovation. The initial idea was to use the technical knowledge acquired in the academic formation of its founding partners to provide consultancies in companies of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The first services already offered an integration, something not very used in the companies from the state’s countryside at the time, between computational modelling via CAD platforms (Computer Aided Design), numerical analysis with CAE software (Computer Aided Engineering) and strain gauges instrumentation. This integrated package still is a powerful engineering tool in the product development process and it is an important competitive edge of Símeros. Soon, with a highly specialized service offer, Símeros was able to conquer its first clients, and thus it remained in this market for the following years.
Around 2011, Símeros was sought out and contracted by the company called Wellstream (currently General Electric) to carry out in-situ instrumentation of a high technical commitment. This work, alongside the promising economical moment for the area in Brazil, led the founder’s vision towards the oil and gas market. Since then, all the company efforts were concentrated in developing specialized products and services for the oil and gas sector, more specifically to the subsea flexible pipes and umbilicals area, as the partners were specializing in it. The year of 2012 was an important milestone in the history of the company, because it was in that year where Símeros made a partnership with the company TMSA – Tecnologia em Movimentação SA to submit a project in the technological innovation announcement launched by FINEP, BNDES and PETROBRAS, denominated INOVAPETRO.
Among the several guidelines of the edict, Símeros and TMSA submitted a project for the development of end fittings and subsea flexible pipe and umbilical accessories. The project was approved and was able to capitalize TMSA and Símeros to develop its products and position itself in the market. In 2013, Símeros wrote and deposited four international patents related to subsea flexible pipe and umbilical end fittings, had the opportunity of creating a deep relationship with PETROBRAS, mainly with the researchers of CENPES, through joint developments, and finally, in this same year could get even closer to the main manufacturers of flexible pipes and umbilicals. In the year of 2014, Símeros conducted several projects of verification and qualification for subsea flexible pipes and umbilicals through experimental tests, usually full-scale, in partnership with the LAMEF laboratory of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Also in 2014, Símeros was contemplated with the edict of Economic Subsidy for the development of innovative products promoted by FINEP in partnership with FAPERGS, the TECNOVA RS program.
Inside TECNOVA RS, Símeros could start the development of an innovative technique to monitor the structural integrity of subsea flexible pipes and umbilicals in offshore operations. The year of 2015 presented another historical milestone for the company, as it was in 2015 that Símeros designed and build its own test laboratory, which brought to the company new services and agility in its developments. Nowadays, the company Símeros Projetos Eletromecânicos is called Símeros Technologies and provides on-demand engineering services, performs qualification and research tests on flexible pipes and umbilicals, designs its own dynamic test benches, customized to its needs, and develops applications using instrumentation and monitoring technologies for own use and on external sites.
Símeros’ staff is composed, on its majority, by master level engineers, with expertise in product development, instrumentation and signal conditioning, processing and analysis of large quantities of data in real-time and execution on the most diverse tests. They are young engineers, but extremely specialized, who add their enthusiasm and technical competence in the projects that the company carries out.
